SMACNA, in collaboration with other trade organizations, has launched the first-ever ‘Careers in Trades Week,’ taking place from April 7 to 11. As reported by HomePros News, this initiative aims to ‘promote skilled trades as valuable career paths’ and increase awareness among students and job seekers
Why It Matters
With over 40,000 annual HVAC job openings expected through 2033, the demand for skilled workers is rising. According to the original announcement, “86% of U.S. parents with high school or college-aged children are open to encouraging careers in the trades” due to concerns over student debt and job security.
What to Expect
Event details are still emerging, but participating organizations will host activities to showcase trade careers.
- SMACNA CEO Aaron Hilger noted, “Skilled professions play critical roles in building the world in which we live, work, and play.”
Building the Future Workforce
This initiative supports broader workforce development efforts, including major investments in trade education and new nonprofit initiatives. As noted, this effort follows “several similar initiatives announced just this year.” By raising awareness, ‘Careers in Trades Week’ aims to inspire future trade professionals.
